Introduction

Tides ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application available on iOS and Android platforms.

We designed Tides with privacy in mind. We collect the minimum amount of data necessary to provide our service, and we never sell your personal information.

Information We Collect

Automatically Collected

  • Anonymous Device Identifier: A randomly generated UUID stored locally on your device. This identifier is not linked to your personal identity, Apple ID, or Google account. It allows us to count active fasters for the "Tide" feature without knowing who you are.
  • Fasting Session Data: Start time, end time, fasting mode selected (e.g., 16:8, 18:6, OMAD), and session completion status. This data is stored locally and synced to our servers to persist across app reinstalls.
  • Achievement Progress: Milestones reached, total hours fasted, and biological phases achieved. Used to track your personal progress and unlock achievements.

Optionally Collected (With Your Permission)

  • Health Data: If you enable Apple Health or Google Fit integration, we read and write fasting duration data and optionally weight data. This data remains on your device within the respective health platform and is not transmitted to our servers.
  • Weight & Mood Logs: If you choose to track weight or mood within the app, this data is stored with your fasting history.
  • Notification Preferences: Your preferences for fasting reminders and phase notifications are stored locally.

What We Do NOT Collect

  • Your name, email address, or phone number (we have no user accounts)
  • Your location data
  • Your contacts or calendar
  • Photos, camera, or microphone access
  • Advertising identifiers (IDFA/GAID)
  • Any data from other apps on your device

How We Use Your Information

  • Timer & History: Display your current fast, past fasting sessions, and progress over time.
  • Biological Phases: Calculate and display what metabolic phase you're in (fed state, fat burning, ketosis, autophagy, etc.).
  • The Tide: Your anonymous device ID contributes to the real-time count of people currently fasting. This is displayed to Pro users as "X people fasting now."
  • Achievements: Track your milestones and unlock achievements based on your fasting history.
  • Widgets: Provide data to lock screen and home screen widgets showing your current fast status.
  • Health Sync: Write fasting data to Apple Health or Google Fit if you've granted permission.

Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored in two places:

  • Locally on Your Device: Fasting history, preferences, and cached data are stored locally using secure storage mechanisms provided by iOS (Keychain/UserDefaults) and Android (EncryptedSharedPreferences).
  • Firebase (Google Cloud): Anonymous fasting data is synced to Firebase Firestore and Firebase Realtime Database, hosted in the United States. This enables the Tide feature and data persistence. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest.

We do not store any personally identifiable information on our servers. Your anonymous device ID cannot be used to identify you as an individual.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We may share anonymous, aggregated data:

  • Tide Count: The total number of active fasters is visible to Pro users. No individual data is exposed.
  • Service Providers: We use Firebase (Google) for backend infrastructure. Google processes data according to their privacy policy and our data processing agreement.

Third-Party Services

  • Firebase (Google): Backend database and authentication. Firebase Privacy Policy
  • Apple App Store / Google Play: For app distribution and in-app purchases. Purchases are processed by Apple/Google, not by us.
  • Apple Health / Google Fit: Optional integration. Data stays within these platforms and is governed by their respective privacy policies.

Your Rights & Choices

  • Access: View all your fasting data within the app's History section.
  • Export: Pro users can export their complete fasting history.
  • Delete: Uninstalling the app removes all local data. To delete server-side data, contact us at privacy@tides.fast with your device ID (found in Settings).
  • Health Permissions: Revoke Apple Health or Google Fit access at any time through your device settings.
  • Notifications: Disable notifications through the app settings or your device settings.

Children's Privacy

Tides is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected data from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

International Users

Tides is operated from the United States. If you are accessing the app from the European Union, United Kingdom, or other regions with data protection laws, please note that your data will be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using Tides, you consent to this transfer.

For EU/UK users: We process data based on legitimate interests (providing our service) and your consent (for optional features like health sync). You may have additional rights under GDPR including data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of Tides after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
